How to achieve a good GMAT score
As you might have realized achieving a 700+ on the GMAT requires dedication and hard work, especially if you seeking acceptance in to the best MBA Masters in Business Administration courses in the USA, Europe or Asia. At times you might just want to give up but we recommend you to continue working hard and achieve what was once thought as impossible.
In following article by International Academic Centre, we will discuss certain tips that could help you to increase your academic level during the moment you are preparing for the GMAT exam.
Over 300 000 students take the GMAT exam ever year and only 10% achieve a higher score than 700 points. Understandably those students that reach over 700 points have a better chance of entry to the top universities.
Why is it difficult to reach over the 700 mark?
There are many reasons why one might find it difficult to reach over the 700 points in the GMAT, but the principle reason is time management during the exam. To increase your overall points by 100, you need to practice and look over all your notes and exercise at least 200-250 hours. If you are cruising at a 550 level and wish to increase your level to 700, we recommend that you’ll need roughly an extra 350 hours of personal study time to reach the 700 mark. We understand that finding the time to study might be very hard especially if you are holding down a 9-6 job or constantly traveling for work. But if you dedicate 20 hours per week on GMAT preparation, we calculate that it could take you roughly 6 months to reach your objective of 700+.
The second reason why candidates do not reach a high score in the GMAT is the difficulty in improving their verbal skills. The progression of mathematical analysis is usually easier because it is linear: you learn the right strategy, you work on the questions on the exercises, and so you follow continuous progress. On the other hand, the verbal section of the exam (critical reasoning and reading comprehension) is usually a bit more complicated for some. For example, can phrases be systematically improved? The answer is no. There are many ways to make a phrase and that it is correct.
The ideal study program
«What not to say in your essay for your admission to an MBA». If you have a full-time job, it will be very difficult to focus on the GMAT for 6 months. In addition, your preparation sessions will be more distant, so you will have to spend more time reviewing the information of your prep sessions. Therefore, it is advisable, if possible, to study or practice 20 hours per week for 3 months everything you learn, then take 3 to 4 weeks of leave to prepare intensely in the GMAT.To begin with, you will have to work on your weak points; for most people this includes sentence correction. Mastering this part will not only allow you to answer more questions correctly, but also respond to them with greater agility, giving you more time for critical reasoning and reading comprehension. If you have not got a strong section, you should probably alternate between math and sentence correction in your study sessions. If your weak point is reading, you can try to follow what we advise you next:• Review the various strategies of critical reasoning and reading comprehension (in a manual or in a GMAT preparation course provided by International Academic Centre).• Start practicing by answering reading comprehension questions.• Continue to work on sentence correction in parallel.Remember, your reading skills will not progress linearly. Even if you cannot reach a high level after three weeks of practice, continue working hard to reach that score: eventually you will get there! In International Academic Centre we have experts who will help you throughout the process of this new stage of your professional career, from the preparation for your GMAT or GRE exam, until you finish the process for your admission to the business school of your choice.Register now!We want to hear from you!
